Repair & Renew Series – Visible Darning – Sunday 23 June 2024 (10am – 1pm) Ilkley

Welcome to Visible Darning, a captivating workshop in our Repair and Renew series held monthly on Sundays in Ilkley. Delve into stitches and techniques that empower you to creatively address common repairs.

Visible Darning revolutionises the traditional approach, utilizing color and pattern to mend knitted textiles visibly. Embrace this stylised method, where no invisible repairs are made. No prior experience in traditional darning is necessary—just bring an open mind and unleash your creativity.

Explore other workshops in the series:

  • Rips/Tears and Reinforcing: Learn diverse repair techniques, from split seams to patchwork reinforcement, using traditional and contemporary methods like the fishbone stitch and arrowhead tack.
  • Mending Small Holes: Master techniques for repairing small flaws in woven or knitted fabrics. Gain proficiency in stitches like the blanket and tailor’s buttonhole stitch, exploring creative approaches to integration into larger designs.

Led by tutor Becky Davies-Downes, a seasoned fashion designer and costumer in the television industry, renowned for her contemporary interpretation of skills from the Make Do and Mend Movement. Experience the revival of historical tips and tricks, tailored for modern fabrics and designs, promoting slow-crafting that’s both economical and eco-friendly.
