Repair & Renew Series – Mending Small Holes – Sunday 21 April 2024 (10am – 1pm) Ilkley

Welcome to Mending Small Holes, part of our monthly Sunday classes in Ilkley designed to guide you through stitches and techniques for imaginative repairs. Book one session or join three Repair and Renew classes over the year for a £10 online shopping reward.

Mending Small Holes equips you with techniques for small repairs in woven or knitted fabrics. Snags, pulls, and small holes need quick attention to prevent larger issues. Learn blanket and tailor’s buttonhole stitches, explore scotch and blanket stitch darning, and discover creative ways to incorporate repairs into larger designs.

Explore other classes in the series:

  1. Rips/Tears and Reinforcing: From split seams to torn edges, learn traditional and contemporary reinforcement techniques using patches, fishbone stitch, and arrowhead tack.
  2. Visible Darning: Revamp darning with color and pattern to visibly mend large and small areas in knitted textiles. No invisible repairs—just bring an open mind and creativity.

Tutor Becky Davies-Downes, a fashion designer and TV costumer specializing in 1940s fashion, offers a contemporary twist to essential skills from the Make Do and Mend Movement. Discover tips and tricks from the past updated for modern fabrics and designs.
