Silk Painting Workshop – Wednesday 10 September 2025 (10am-1pm) Ilkley

Join us for a calm, creative session exploring the art of silk painting. This ancient craft dates back over 2,000 years to China and flourished along the Silk Road. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics of working with silk, from stretching the fabric to applying dyes and experimenting with techniques like gutta outlining and salt effects.

Silk painting is a wonderfully versatile craft — whether you prefer bold shapes, soft washes of colour, or delicate detail. There’s plenty of room to play and find your own style. You leave with your own finished piece and the skills to develop your craft at home, with tutor Kim Searle’s guide to where to find materials.

No experience needed — just a willingness to have a go. It’s a lovely, mindful way to spend a few hours and discover something new.

All materials are provided, along with plenty of tea, chat, and inspiration!

Each participant also receives a 10% off voucher to put. towards a future workshop.

Access notice: there are two steps up into our building at 3 Church Street, Ilkley LS29 9DR. We sincerely apologise if this prevents anyone attending our workshops.
