Our Locker Hooking workshop is a new take on a British heritage craft.
Locker Hooking is a textile technique with roots in early 20th-century rug-making and now enjoying a well-deserved revival. Originating in the UK in the early 1900s, it was traditionally used to make hardwearing rugs from scraps and offcuts. Today, it’s loved for its versatility, colour-play, and slow, meditative rhythm. Think coasters, mats, wall hangings, bags & cushion covers.
Tutor Kim Searle of Darn It! Workshops will guide you through the basics of the technique. She’ll teach you to use a special needle to ‘lock’ yarn and fabric strips through a canvas base, as well as how to start and finish your work, change colours, and add texture and shape. No previous experience is required.
Whether you’re drawn to its potential for bold graphic patterns or its quirky up-cycled charm, locker hooking is a creative textile craft that’s creative, practical, portable and with a distinctive personality.
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can start on your own project, while enjoying a mindful, sociable crafting session.
All materials are provided, along with plenty of tea, chat, and inspiration!
Each participant also receives a 10% off voucher to put. towards a future workshop.
Access notice: there are two steps up into our building at 3 Church Street, Ilkley LS29 9DR. We sincerely apologise if this prevents anyone attending our workshops.
