13/8/2022 Silk Ribbon Embroidery Workshop: Summer Hearts & Flowers - Saturday 13 August 2022 (10am-4pm) York

In this step-by-step workshop for beginners you will create a beautiful hand embroidered heart of pure silk ribbon flowers on a silk dupion fabric. Total luxury.

Silk ribbon embroidery is fun, easy to master and very versatile. The three-dimensional effect of this soft, tactile form of needlework is one of its most endearing qualities. Pure silk ribbons are the only ribbons fine enough to slip through the eye of a needle and then through fabric to create delicate silk flowers. Silk ribbon embroidery uses a few stitching techniques that are unique but do not let this put off as they are very easy to learn.

Jacqueline, one of our specialist tutors will guide you through the dynamics of various stitches to create a variety of flowers and leaves for this project. Remember that Mother Nature is not perfect, and so our ribbon embroidery flowers do not have to be either. It’s all about colour, balance, tension and texture … and of course the skills you will learn.

Some of the information, skills and techniques Jacqueline will teach in this silk ribbon embroidery for beginners are:

An overview of silk ribbon materials and where to source them
Methods of dying silk ribbons
How to prepare your silk ribbons for stitching
Prepping your hoop and setting your fabrics for ribbon embroidery
How to take flower design inspiration from nature
